The Bangalore Project: Empowering Students at Nalanda Vidyalaya through Education and Support
The Bangalore Project is a transformative educational initiative by NOSFAM aimed at uplifting underprivileged children from Nalanda Vidyalaya, a government school in Bangalore. The project began with a focus on a group of six 5th-grade students who were provided with live online classes to enhance their academic learning. Utilizing platforms like Google Meet, NOSFAM offered engaging lessons in a range of subjects including Environmental Science, Hindi, Kannada, English, and Mathematics. The lessons were crafted using interactive presentations and live quizzes, making learning enjoyable and engaging for the students.
However, the team quickly realized that connectivity issues were hindering the students’ ability to participate effectively in the online classes. In response, NOSFAM adapted by switching to a more accessible mode of learning—pre-recording the lessons and sending them to the students for flexible viewing. This allowed the students to learn at their own pace, accommodating the varying schedules and connectivity challenges. Regular assignments and weekly quizzes ensured that the students remained engaged, allowing for consistent monitoring of their progress and fostering a sense of discipline and continuity in their learning journey.
Building on the success of this approach, Prahlad, the founder of NOSFAM, took the next step in expanding the impact of the Bangalore Project. For eight months, he worked as a full-time teacher at Nalanda Vidyalaya, teaching Mathematics, English, and Social Science (SST) to students across classes 6-10. His immersive involvement allowed him to build strong relationships with the students, providing them with not only academic support but also mentorship and guidance.
Through his dedication and hands-on approach, Prahlad impacted over 120 students at Nalanda Vidyalaya. His presence in the classroom brought much-needed focus and personalized attention to each student, ensuring that they not only grasped difficult concepts but also developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills. His teachings extended beyond textbooks, fostering a growth mindset and encouraging the students to aspire for greater academic success.
